Tottenham failed to qualify for Champions League football (yet again) but there will still be European action at White Hart Lane, much to the enjoyment of their rival supporters.

Once a top four finish became impossible, it was crystal clear to see that Mauricio Pochettino did not want his side to qualify for Europe’s second tier event. Somehow, they even managed to mess up something they were trying to lose.

Thursday night football won’t inspire Tottenham, who will field a weakened team throughout the early stages, or their supporters. Meanwhile, the Thursday night football can stretch resources whilst also eating into valuable preparation time ahead of weekend Premier League matches.

Unless Spurs are to go and win the competition, it’s a complete waste of time. They’d give anything to be in Arsenal’s shoes here.
