Playing against the Gers for Romanian outfit Steaua Bucharest in the 1995 Champions League, Daniel Prodan would spend a season at Athletico Madrid before being picked up for £2.2 million by the Scottish champions in 1998. Lauded as someone who could be a success at the club, Prodan would unbelievably never make one single first team appearance. The cause of his inability to play was a knee injury, one which had apparently been suffered in Spain. Shockingly, later reports suggested that no medical had been conducted upon the player's arrival in Glasgow, which meant Prodan sat on the shelf until 2001, never kicking a ball. Initially, it seemed Rangers had a case for suing Madrid, but the case was thrown out of court, meaning the Scottish team had a lame duck in their midst. So much for being a success story, the only time Daniel Prodan was ever seen was sitting in the stands or holding up advertising placards at the club shop!
