Many players have badmouthed Scottish football since leaving the country, but few have bashed it more than Oleg Salenko. The Russian internationalist seemed like quite the signing for Walter Smith in 1995. A joint top leader of the scoring charts at the 1994 World Cup, Salenko would score 7 goals during a solitary season at Ibrox, but spent most of the time being moody. Making a name for himself in his homeland with Dynamo Kiev, the man should have kicked on after a spell at Valencia, becoming a great addition to the Rangers team who were - at the time - chasing an 8th consecutive Scottish league championship title. However, he didn't, and really never seemed to enjoy playing in Scotland. Bizarrely, Salenko would later claim that he didn't take to the weather, despite being from the decidedly more harsh climate of Russia. Perhaps he was referring to the year he spent in Spain with Valencia, or had simply lost his mind. One thing is for sure, a lot of Rangers fans lost their patience with him very quickly.
