It was in 1966 that Sir Alf Ramsey led England to its only World Cup triumph. With the tournament taking place on home soil, many expected England to go deep into the latter stages. Sir Alf is famous for his quote in 1963, when he notoriously stated that "we will win the World Cup". The nation expected, and Sir Alf delivered. A 4-2 victory over West Germany in the final ensured that England became the third country to win the World Cup as hosts.
