5 Bizarre Incidents At UFC On Fox 13

3. Joe Riggs Taps Out After Spiking Opponent

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-alYh57U54 Usually, when you're in control and spike an opponent, everything is going your way. Not so for Joe Riggs at UFC on Fox 13. Riggs was returning to the UFC after winning Bellator's Fight Master reality series. Bellator apparently paid all the win money from the show up front, and didn't lock the fighter into a contract, because immediately after winning it, he signed with the UFC. Then he shot himself in the hand. Seriously. After healing from the accidental shooting, Riggs made his return against Ben Saunders, and seemed to be holding his own. He picked Saunders up, spiked him (think of it as a slam), and then almost immediately tapped out himself. What? That's something you rarely see. However, Riggs apparently injured his neck or shoulder executing the move. He was in a choke, but it didn't seem that dangerous. Post-fight, he said he felt numbness in his arm/shoulder area, and that it was worse than a stinger, which he'd had before. A strange end to a fight Riggs could have won.
