5 Reasons Chelsea Will Win The League (And One They Won't)

In a way, it is surprising that Chelsea are so close to the top of the Premier League. Unlike Manchester City, there have been no flash victories, save the 3-1 win over a poor Manchester United side. The Blues are into the knockout stage of the Champions League and their tie against Galatasaray has been a footnote compared to those of the English counterparts. There has been no fanfare, no big words, no doubt plenty of belief inside Stamford Bridge but no outward, overt sign of confidence. It is surprising when there is so much to indicate the could end the season with not just one but potentially three trophies this season. While Chelsea have picked up both the Europa league and the Champions League in the last two years, they will be eager to reclaim their domestic crown. Here are five reasons why they will, and one why they will miss out.

5. Jose Mourinho

Let's start with the main reason Chelsea have moved from a very strong cup team, indomitable on their day, to a team that consistently picks up points and has the stamina for the long grind of a league season. Jose Mourinho is back, and so are Chelsea. The Special One's record speaks for itself. Seven league titles in four difference countries, as well as two Champions League titles, one Uefa Cup, a FA Cup, and numerous other trophies mark him as the preeminent football coach of his generation. From the exploits on the pitch to the theatrics on the touchlines, to the mind warfare conducted in press conferences, Mourinho is a master of his profession and knows what it takes to win the Premier League. Throughout the season the ex-Porto, Internazionale and Real Madrid manager has downplayed expectations at Stamford Bridge. When his Blues side was drawn away to Manchester City in the FA Cup, Mourinho said his team 'had nothing to lose'. Despite his words, Chelsea are competing for trophies on three fronts and sit only three points their Monday night hosts at the top of the table. With Jose at the helm, anything is possible.
