5 Reasons Why Chelsea Won't Win The Premier League

5. Negative Tactics

This was a favourite tactic of Mourinho's first stint in charge at the club, and yes it worked, but football in England has moved on in his absence. The Chelsea side of his first tenure were solid at the back, hard to break down and rarely leaked goals to anyone in the league. They were a counter attacking side who were quick to catch their opponents on the break thanks to players such as Didier Drogba and Arjen Robben. Now though, the club are packed with players who are built for a patient possession based controlling game, a tactic that Mourinho doesn't care much for, and his failure to change from his old tactics have been all too apparent at the start of the season. During his time in Spain, Mourinho spent the entire three years trying to break down Barcelona's free-flowing football, and he failed spectacularly, winning the title just once, along with a Copa del Rey as their Clasico rivals swept them away again and again. Despite a couple of superb victories against the Catalan giants, the wider picture showed Mourinho's tactics to be seriously flawed in both the league and Europe. This has now transferred itself to the Premier League, with the former Porto coach employing the same tactics with extremely different players, and it has been the culprit for many dubious performances from the team this season, and Mourinho's luck will probably run out before the league season's end.
