6 Best & 6 Worst Newcastle Managers Since 1975

6 Worst

6. Ruud Gullit

You might not remember it, but when Ruud Gullit came in to Newcastle, he was classed as an exciting managerial prospect, who would return Sexy Football to the club. Unfortunately, few could ever have realised that when he said sexy, he meant a disappointing, sloppy mess of a thing with dour, disinterested participants, rather than a thing of beauty. The fan-orgasms were few and far between, and there was very little to remember in the end apart from his spectacularly misjudged attempt to take on Alan Shearer. Unsurprisingly, he lost, Shearer won and Sir Bobby Robson arrived to fix everything the Dutchman had broken - but most of all the club's spirt. Incredibly, he'd actually started pretty well, but everything after that was just a mess, and the manager seemed to enjoy provocatively p*ssing off the fans.
