1. Because He Could
The final reason James opted out of his contract with the Miami Heat is simply because he could. James has the option of leaving Miami for a different team, signing a longer term contract with the Heat or another team. If he resigns with Miami, he was doing them a favor. Other teams were gutting their rosters to make room for James. All the meanwhile, the Miami Heat have the best opportunity to keep James, while upgrading their roster at the same time. James is the best player in the NBA of this generation and it is wise for him to explore all of his options whenever possible. His list of suitors will never be short. The Cleveland Cavaliers have actually be planning their salary cap for the last four years based on James. Chances are Cleveland is not the only team that did this. Opting out of ones contract is a great opportunity for any player. It gives them the opportunity make more money and secure their financial stability for themselves and their family. These are all reasons why Lebron James opted out of his Miami Heat contract, regardless of where he decides to play next season.
