7 Reasons Why Lebron James Opted Out Of His Miami Heat Contract

2. To Give Miami Heat More Flexibility

Without the contracts of James, Dwayne Wade or Chris Bosh, the Miami Heat are way under the salary cap. In fact, when you take player options under consideration, the only definite contract the Heat have for next year is Norris Cole at $2 million dollars. Sure there are cap holds for all their free agents, but there€™s one bottom line. That is the Heat have a ton of flexibility. Even if the Heat don€™t sign Carmelo Anthony, James and crew opting out gives the Heat many options. After losing to the San Antonio Spurs in just five games, the Heat need to upgrade their roster. Other notable free agents available for the Heat to look at are Dirk Nowitzki (never leaving Dallas), Tim Duncan (never leaving San Antonio), Eric Bledsoe, Kyle Lowry, Isaiah Thomas, Pau Gasol, Zack Randolph, Lance Stephenson, Marcin Gortat, Rudy Gay, Paul Pierce, Greg Monroe and Gordon Hayward. This list comes from NBA.com€™s top 25 free agents this year. A number of these players fit the Heat€™s needs. They need to upgrade their point guard position. Although James and Wade tend to play the position for the Heat, they need a true point guard. The Heat also need a quality center. Bosh has been playing center for them the last four years and he is more of a power forward. Some might say that without signing Anthony, the Heat have a lot more options that make more sense for the team.
