If a team isn't performing to the standard expected by their manager, it is common knowledge that they'll receive an earful when they get back into the dressing room at half-time. What isn't expected however, is for a manager to usher his players back out onto the pitch to berate them in front of their following fans, but that's exactly what Phil Brown decided to do with his Hull City side as they were torn apart by Manchester City on Boxing Day in 2008. If it had turned the game around - the Tigers were losing 4-0 at the time - it may have gone down as being a stroke of tactical genius. However, as expected, Manchester City ran out easy victors, eventually winning 5-1. The embarrassment and humiliation felt that day caused a huge rift between the coaching staff and the players and then-captain George Boateng blamed the debacle for the club's demise as they were relegated the following season.
