Vitor Belfort became the poster boy for the "legal cheating" that was TRT - testosterone replacement therapy. Used to bring up depleted testosterone levels in older fighters or fighters with medical conditions, there was multiple questions about why so many fighters needed it - especially fighters like Belfort, who had a past history of steroid abuse (which leads to lower testosterone levels). It was Belfort's success on the treatment that made him the focal point of the public's anger over it: three brutal knockouts over Luke Rockhold, Michael Bisping, and Dan Henderson. However, it was a failed drug test - originally kept secret as Belfort was out of competition - on the part of Belfort that led to TRT finally being banned. When word of the test came out at long last this summer, Belfort was dragged before the same NSAC board as Chael Sonnen - but instead of the two year ban Sonnen was handed down, Belfort was given a told to keep himself clean, and sent on his way to a title shot. He meets Chris Weidman in December, proving that cheaters do prosper.
