8 Greatest 30-Somethings In World Football Right Now
6. Bastian Schweinsteiger
Despite his injury problems over the last couple of years, Bastian Schweinsteiger remains one of the world's best 30-somethings without a shadow of a doubt. The 30-year-old is one of the most complete central midfielders of his generation, and is still a world-class player. Schweinsteiger has been a mainstay of Bayern Munich's side for many years now, and the same applies with Germany. Lahm's international retirement, following Joachim Low's side's World Cup triumph, saw the midfielder named as his country's new captain, and he is perfect for the role. He has everything in his armoury: passing, shooting, tackling, scoring, leadership and consistency. His performances in Brazil were sensational at times, in particular his heroic display in the final against Argentina. When Schweinsteiger does eventually call it a day, he will be remembered as one of the finest midfielders of the last 20 years. He has become better and better the older he has got- he was not seen as a great player during his early to mid 20s- and there are several years left in him yet. Hopefully his injury issues have subsided now, having recently returned to action for the first time since the summer.
