Alfredo Di Stefano, who played for more countries than you've had hot dinners, was rumoured to be ready to move to Celtic Park in 1964. Aged 36 and having just left Real Madrid where he scored 216 goals in 282 appearances, he was rumoured to be close to signing on the dotted line before his family decided they wanted to stay in Spain. Celtic fans can comfort themselves by pretending he was past it. He only scored 11 goals in 47 games at his next club Espanyol.
