One of the cruelest rumours ever to befall Celtic Football Club involved the signing of a little known Brazilian centre back by the name of Rafael Scheidt and is a potent reminder of why one should never entirely trust a football agent. During John Barnes' tenure as manager in 1999, Celtic were introduced to a Brazilian international defender Scheidt, shown to them on a VHS tape brought over to Scotland by his agent. He looked like a talent and had two Brazil caps to his name. For £5 million, it seemed like a no-brainer but they should have taken his name into account. Scheidt went on to have an injury-ridden, morale-crushing spell with the Bhoys, eventually making a grand total of three appearances before being shipped out on loan after being given the runaround in a friendly with Bray Wanderers.
