8 Ridiculous Rangers Rumours That Never Happened

4. The Casino And The Mega Stadium

Over the years there have been many and varied plans to turn Ibrox Stadium and the surrounding areas into entertainment hubs. One plan was to turn Ibrox into a futuristic 70,000 seater venue which would hold as many concerts as football games and the sketches included a really odd looking roof which appeared to feature a complete football pitch housed within a glass structure. A "source" told the Daily Mail:
"If something like this went through then there's no reason why the Rolling Stones could not play one week and Ricky Hatton fight there the next... There's a gap in the market out with the NEC in Birmingham for major conferences and concerts and these blueprints would enable Ibrox to host multiple events."
Of course the SECC on the other side of the river wouldn't have worked. Not even close. Another earlier proposal was for Glasgow to play host to the UK's only Super Casino which would be housed within Rangers' sphere of influence and bring a massive hotel complex to the area. Unfortunately the contract was eventually awarded to Manchester before being scrapped altogether.
