Arsenal emerged as the victors from this season's first North London derby - a single goal from Olivier Giroud midway through the first half was enough to see off rivals Spurs - and the match was an eye-opener for both teams and their sets of fans. Spurs have spent an awful lot of money - upwards of £100 million - this summer while Arsenal have been relatively quiet in the transfer market, but they still managed to take 3 points from their old enemy. It was a very close and entertaining encounter and, in the same way Spurs shouldn't be too disappointed, Arsenal shouldn't be too over-confident because one victory does not a season make. Manchester City have lost at Cardiff already this season, while Manchester United lost at Liverpool and Arsenal themselves lost at home to Aston Villa, so for Spurs to lose by a single goal away at a team who, when all's said and done, finished fourth last season is not the end of the world by any means.
