Nine years without a trophy for a club expected to mount a serious challenge across four competitions ever year is unacceptable and any other manager in world football would have been sacked.

But then, during the nine-year period, Arsenal were 15 minutes from being crowned European champions and one minute from forcing the Carling Cup Final to extra-time. There are a few guarantees in life: the sun rises and set, everyone dies, and Arsenal always finish fourth, and it was this predictability that seems to have angered Arsenal fans the most during their fallow period.

Hopefully the cycle will break this season and fourth spot is no longer an objective in May. Wenger€™s current side are much improved from 2010 as the current crop understands how to succeed through adversity. Arsenal showed bravery, resistance and determination to come back from 2-0 down after 10 minutes against Hull in the FA Cup Final. In reality they scraped past two sides that they should have beaten comfortably. How can Wenger's side be expected to have beaten Bayern Munich in last year€™s Champions League when they had trouble overcoming Hull and Wigan on a big pitch at Wembley?
