However, now 31, the player's contract expires in the summer of 2015, and with his role in the team requiring massive amounts of energy and stamina, it is touch and go as to whether Wenger will extend his deal with the club, who will be 33 when it runs out. The uncapped Spaniard has been in superb form for the Gunners recently, and since his move from Everton as part of a transfer deadline day scramble from the club in 2011, he has undoubtedly been one of their most consistent players, and losing him when his deal runs out could be a mistake they will regret.
