Anyone who demands to be paid £4million per year and would scoff at the offer of less probably isn't going to add character to the squad. Or at least not the kind that is actually welcome. There are numerous reports that indicate Arsenal were the first choice for Remy: his appearance at the Emirates at the end of last season being a big indicator. It begs the question then, that if your first choice club is interested in signing you, then why would't you accept a pay cut (from one megabucks salary to a slightly lower megabucks salary) in order to push through the move? Cesc Fabregas did it and he was a World Cup winner; not a mid-table striker. The answer - which should be of comfort to Arsenal fans - is that Remy's, alleged, response is a good measure of a man's character. If his main focus is on money, then he isn't focused on the vision of the club and will likely be a disruption to the harmony of the team. And no amount of fervent denials that the player didn't sign for QPR for money reasons will ever suggest otherwise. This particular transfer could prove to be an expensive bullet that has been dodged. Do you think Remy is a Top 4 striker? Are Liverpool right to invest £80,000 a week in him?
