Cardiff City New Manager: 5 Men To Replace Malky Mackay

2. Craig Bellamy

Hometown boy Bellamy, 34, might represent an in-house option for Cardiff as the versatile forward has hinted at hanging up his boots at the end of the season. Needless to say the jump from gifted, if somewhat temperamental, player to Premier League coach would be massive. Giving Bellamy a go would be a huge gamble on Tan's part. Whilst it seems like a liberty, this potential appointment would placate fans if Mackay is indeed forced out. In the absence of injured club captain Mark Hudson, Bellamy skippered the Bluebirds to promotion and the Championship title. He will forever be synonymous with that success. Owners, though with every good intention of trying to do what is best for their club, do not always pick the right option. Just ask Blackburn Rovers supporters about Venky's. Tan is not exactly flavour of the month with many Cardiff fans. Changing the colour of their kit, for example, caused uproar. Far be it from us to disrespect another culture, but the fact that the Bluebirds played in 'lucky' red and went up is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Quite frankly Cardiff could have played in a Mr Blobby kit of pink with yellow spots, it would not change the fact they were the best Championship club last term. Bellamy is certainly someone who should be accommodated on the Bluebirds' coaching staff, but must not be allowed to run before he can walk in such matters.
