Celtic Transfers: 5 Strikers Lennon Could Buy For £6 Million Or Less

4. Steven Fletcher

Steven Fletcher is a player that Celtic fans know well from his time at Hibernian. At the time just before he left for Burnley, he seemed to be endlessly linked to join our team, it was almost made out to be his destiny. Unfortunately for all the fans who wanted him here, this was the time that Celtic started to change their transfer policy (to buy low, sell high), and the £3 million price tag on Stephen Fletcher was a bit too much for Peter Lawwell, Celtic's Chief Executive to comprehend spending on an SPL striker. The resale value could have been disastrous as it wasn't clear how good he could be in a Celtic shirt due to his lack of experience playing against better teams. Now though, Fletcher has that experience. He is a regular starter in the Premier League, and has many attributes that comply to Celtic's needs. He is a tall, penalty box target man - similar to Venegoor Of Hesselink, yet he isn't only limited to scoring goals with his head. He's scored 14 goals in 40 appearances since joining Sunderland, which does not seem too great a return at first, but then considering he is playing in a top league full of top quality defences with a team that has been badly managed of late, it's quite a noble goal stat. At times he can be a deadly finisher, but unfortunately this season he hasn't been continuing the good form built from previous. It's still clear to see that he could have something to offer our team, and a transfer to Celtic could be the move he needs to reshape his career and make his debut in the mouthwatering Champions League. Whether we can afford him is another matter altogether... Fletcher cost Sunderland £12 million, and while a lot of the '£6 million' quotes from Lennon were linked to Fletcher, it's not conclusive to what Sunderland would value him at. They won't get a deal anywhere near to £12 million, but they're going to want as much as they can get for him if they end up selling.

As a recent university graduate and a huge supporter of Celtic FC, what better way to use my inevitable free time to write about my favourite football team? I'll cover most things that the supporters are talking about at the moment, which includes things that directly and indirectly involve the club. At times I may also stray into matters concerning English clubs.
