Chelsea: 5 Reasons Why They're In Decline

1. Fernando Torres

Torres Fernando Torres hasn't scored a goal in the league all year, which painfully illustrates just how woefully inadequate he has been for Chelsea since his mega-bucks move from Liverpool. The 2007/08 season at Anfield that saw him plunder 33 goals now seems a million years ago and he hasn't scored as many goals in any season since then. His first season at Chelsea yielded one goal, which ended a run of 903 minutes of football without finding the back of the net, whilst his first full season only saw him score 11 times in 49 appearances. He has never looked like living up to the £50 million Abramovich paid for his services in 2011 and it is no surprise that the club have failed to win the Premier League since buying him. The Spaniard looks every inch like becoming "another Shevchenko", a reference of course to the unfortunate Ukrainian who similarly joined the Blues in a big money deal and only managed 9 goals in 48 games. Torres is in real danger of becoming an even bigger flop and if ever you wanted a reason as to why Chelsea are in decline, it's because their strike force simply isn't good enough.
