Chelsea Transfers: 10 Players Screwed By Blues' Ludicrous Transfer Policies
3. Daniel Sturridge
Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge is one player who has escaped the Chelsea curse. Brought in from Manchester City for a compensation fee after his contract expired with Manchester City in 2009, Sturridge actually played more often than most of his counterparts on this list; making a total of 96 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea and scoring 24 goals in the process. However, with heavy competition for a first choice striking role at Stamford Bridge at the time, Liverpool swooped in to offer the player an out - signing Sturridge for an undisclosed fee at the start of 2013. Sturridge's incredible form for Liverpool since his arrival has shown Chelsea that giving youngsters their chance to shine is necessary for their development and key to their success. Retaining over 20 players but sending them out on loan season after season is detrimental to a player's ability to make their mark in the game, with only the most driven coming out as success stories. The transfer of Sturridge to Liverpool was a nice example of how the Blues can relinquish their hold on a talent if they know things aren't working, allowing players to carve out their own legacy in a place where they will end up happier.
