Chelsea Transfers: 5 Deadline Day Deals That COULD Happen

5. Luke Shaw To Join From Southampton

Both Chelsea and their Premier League rivals Manchester United have been chasing Luke Shaw this month. The Southampton left-back has constantly been linked with both English heavyweights throughout the January window and reports claim he'd prefer a move to the Blues. Chelsea view Shaw as the ideal option to replace Ashley Cole, the 33-year-old veteran who is being kept out of Jose Mourinho's starting XI at present. The Stamford Bridge outfit and United are hoping to push through a move before the transfer window slams shut but the Saints are reluctant to sell unless they receive a big-money offer. The Blues are keen in Shaw, who grew up supporting Chelsea in Kingston upon Thames in south London, though they might have to wait until the summer. The 18-year-old left-back has excelled for Southampton this season and helped them make an early surge up the Premier League table at the beginning of the campaign. His defensive capabilities also helped the Saints keep one of the best defensive records in Europe until late last year.
