Chelsea Transfers: 5 Deadline Day Deals That COULD Happen

2. Thibaut Courtois-Diego Costa Atletico Madrid Swap

As Jose Mourinho steps up his pursuit of a striker, reports suggest he is set to make an incredible £30 million deadline day bid for Diego Costa. Chelsea have already re-signed Nemanja Matic from Benfica and bought Mohamed Salah from Basel but Mourinho still wants a new forward and has identified Costa as his prime target. With just eight hours remaining of the window at time of writing, the clock certainly isn't on the Blue's side though they are prepared to test the waters with a huge offer. It's unclear whether Atletico would sell this late on with little time to find a replacement, though the aforementioned Ba could be thrown into the equation. More likely, on-loan Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who has spent time at the Madrid club on-and-off since 2011, could also be used as a makeweight. Costa has been in unstoppable form this season, scoring 19 La Liga goals in 21 appearances to help fire Atletico into second in the table, above derby rivals Real Madrid.
