1. Wages
Money. So many decisions eventually boil down to it, and Lampards case is no different. Abramovich may be an immensely wealthy man, but his pockets are not bottomless and £150,000 a week is an awful lot of money to shell out on a player who is not wanted by the owner, and may not be in the plans of whichever manager takes over at the Bridge next season. Chelsea are undoubtedly in a period of transition and Lampards wages could be much better spent on bringing in one or two younger players who can bring more to this side for a lower weekly wage. There are plenty of nouveau-riche sides out there who will be able to offer Lampard the kind of wages he is after, but if, as reported
he is not prepared to take a pay cut to stay at Stamford Bridge, why should Chelsea keep him? Do you think Chelsea are right to let Lampard go? Share your thoughts below.
