2. Chelsea Are Trying To Move On
Without wishing to repeat myself, it is becoming clear that, although he was delighted with last years Champions League success, Roman Abramovich was unhappy with his side being branded as negative and defensive as they triumphed against the odds. Seeing Barcelona play their way to a multitude of trophies over the past few seasons via an extremely aesthetically pleasing style must have caused a pang of jealousy for the Billionaire Russian whose most successful period as owner was overseen by Jose Mourinho and has efficient, powerful brand of football. Purchasing expensive players such as Oscar, Hazard and David Luiz who play a more entertaining style to that which Chelsea fans are probably used to was surely done with a transition to this new style of play in mind and some players just arent going to fit in. Frank Lampard may be a terrific goalscoring midfielder, adept at finishing from long and close range with a remarkable eye for goal, but he will inevitably stick out in a pacy, short passing and moving team. Put it this way, even at his peak can you imagine Barcelona coming in with bid for Lampard? Precisely. With Didier Drogba departing last summer, and John Terry and Peter Cech the only surviving members of Mourinhos title winning sides, Lampard exit is simply another sign of Abramovichs wish to move on and mould a new, entertaining side. Furthermore, there were plenty of
rumblings in the press around the time of Andre Villas-Boass departure from Stamford Bridge that several senior players looking at you here Frank were instrumental in his downfall with complaints at increased benchtime and new training methods. If there is any truth in these rumours it is unlikely that Abramovich has ever forgiven Lampard and this summer is surely the perfect time to move on a player who may see as a troublemaker.
