Chelsea Transfers: 5 Surprise Signings Jose Mourinho May Still Make This Summer

4. Marouane Fellaini

Marouane Fellaini's suitors are rapidly running out of time if they want to land the Belgian international this summer. The Everton utility man has a release clause of £23 million - peanuts compared to what it could rise to by the middle of next month. Reports suggest Fellaini's release clause will expire on August 14, at which point the Toffee's will be able to demand in excess of £30 million. And that means the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and United are facing a race against time to land the powerful midfielder. Fellaini could be brought in as a long-term replacement for Frank Lampard, who, back in May, penned a new one-year deal at Stamford Bridge. But at 35 he can't carry on forever and Fellaini plays in a similar position to the England international. Both operate in box-to-box roles and are heralded for their tireless energy levels and work-rate. And Fellaini could one day fill Lampard's shoes.
