European Football Weekend Review - Comebacks Galore!

Spain

La Liga time and there was only one story this weekend: Sevilla 1-0 Real Madrid. Jose Mourinho uncharacteristically admitted that Real €˜deserved defeat€™, before criticising the attitude of his team. Have Madrid become complacent after only one La Liga title? Trochowski smashed home from a corner kick as the Los Blancos failed to mark the Polish midfielder. Barcelona defended their 100% record successfully with a 4-1 win at Getafe. Adriano struck first before two goals from Messi put the Catalans well ahead. A late goal from David Villa sealed the points. The results now mean Madrid sit eight points adrift of Barcelona after only four games. Javier Saviola, Joaquin and Francisco Portillo all scored as Malaga continued their solid start to the season with a 3-1 victory over Levante. Valencia were fortunate to avoid a draw at the Mestalla, with braces from Sofiane Feghouli and Aly Cissohko enough to see off Celta Vigo in a 2-1 win. There were two enthralling matches on Sunday as Espanyol and Athletic Bilbao battled to a 3-3 draw while Atletico Madrid halted a comeback from Rayo Vallecano to win 4-3 at the Vicente Calderon. The Basque team came from behind twice to avoid defeat but an upset of huge proportions almost occurred in Madrid. Los Colchoneros or €˜the mattress makers€™ were four ahead just after the 50th minute mark, before three goals in the last ten minutes almost proved enough for Vallecano to deserve a point.
