European Football Weekend Review - Comebacks Galore!

Italy

The speculation surrounding Massimo Allegri€™s future is at an all-time high after Milan lost 1-0 at the San Siro to Atlanta. Only 34,000 (capacity is over double that) turned out to see the mighty Rossoneri lose courtesy of a 64th minute strike from Luca Cigarini. The financial well-being of the Berlusconi owned club seems to be costing them heavily and their Champions League is in doubt. Meanwhile, it was back to winning ways for their city rivals as Inter smashed Torino 2-0 in Turin. Antonio Cassano continued his excellent start at his boy-hood club with another goal, while Diego Milito notched the other. Udinese have yet to kick-start their season following a 2-2 draw against Siena. The Bianconeri were two ahead but the home team managed to win a point. They currently sit with one solitary point, which leaves them in 17th, just ahead of Palermo. The great come-backs didn€™t end there. Roma were two up at the Stadio Olimpico before goals from Alberto Gilardino and Alessandro Diamanti put Bologna level. That was until the 91st minute, when the Italian journeyman struck again to put the Felsinei ahead and seal a wonderful win. Due to the plight of AC Milan and Udinese, both the second and third Champions League spots are up for grabs. Napoli, Lazio and Fiorentina will be putting everything into winning one of those spots and this weekend all three were victorious. The fans at the San Paolo watched as goals from Edison Cavani, Goran Pandev and Lorenzo Insigne put the Naples side 2nd with nine points from three games. They are matched by the leaders Juventus, who remain first following a 3-1 win at Genoa, and third-placed Lazio, who won by the same score-line at Chievo. The Florence team are 6th, despite a 2-0 win at home to Catania, thanks to goals from the much-fancied Stefan Jovetic and Luca Toni.
