Another former player who Martinez could be reunited with at Goodison Park next season is Wigan centre-half Antolin Alcaraz. Wigan owner David Whelan practically handed Martinez an open invitation to make a move for some of his relegated stars,
by claiming he would not stand in the way of a "raid" by Everton on his current squad. And such a receptive attitude could lead to one or two Wigan players making an instant return to the Premier League next season, one of whom is Alcaraz. The 30-year-old Paraguay international is available on a free transfer, which makes his move to Everton all the more smoother. The only issue is his age, though Phil Jagielka is also 30 and managed to put in some accomplished performances for Everton last term.
