3. Mohamed Diame
Along with Arsenal and Newcastle, Everton
were one of three Premier League clubs vying for the services of West Ham's defensive midfielder Mohamed Diame in the January transfer window. The news that the Frenchman could be made available for a bargain fee thanks to his well documented £3.5 million release clause made him an attractive and viable option for all three clubs, especially Everton, who could be seeking a new central midfielder if Marouane Fellaini moves on for pastures new. The powerful midfield enforcer was one of West Ham's better players last season and enjoyed an impressive debut season at Upton Park following his move on a free transfer from Wigan. And he could become yet another player to be reunited with Martinez, who first brought him to the Premier League from La Liga outfit Rayo Vallecano back in 2009. The Hammers were able to withstand intense pressure in the January transfer window by keeping hold of their man, but this summer could prove to be a different story.
