Spurs could have mathematically won the group with a win in this match, had Anzhi not won against Tromso. However, Anzhi did win, which meant Spurs are five points clear but could still mathematically finish second. That said, this victory means that Spurs will have to do something extremely ridiculous to come away from this group as anything other than its top team. The remaining three games (at home to Sheriff, away at Tromso and at home to Anzhi) should be easier than the first three - given that two of them are at White Hart Lane - and a win against Anzhi alone, or indeed three draws, will see Spurs win the group.
