FifPro XI: 11 Players Who Statistically Should Have Been In

9. Luca Antei - Sassuolo (on loan from AS Roma)

Position: Centre-Back Age: 21 Market Value: £1.1 million Previous Clubs: AS Roma, Grosseto (on loan from AS Roma) 21 year old Italian defender, Luca Antei, is most definitely one for the future. The young centre-back makes an average of FIVE tackles and intercepts an average of FOUR balls per game. This makes Antei, statistically, the best defender in the statistics world. Breaking up an average of nine attacks per game, the Sassuolo man is clearly, therefore, an advantage to have in the centre and I wouldn't be surprised to see him pushing for starts at his parent club, AS Roma, in the very near future. After an operation on an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury in 2012, the defender has made a brilliant recovery and now on loan at Sassuolo, he is an integral member of their team. The former Italy U-20 captain even scored a brilliant back-heeled goal in Italy's 6-1 win over Poland U-20 in June 2013. This was one of Antei's two goals in the game. In 2011, Antei was described as having "grown exponentially" whilst training with the Roma first team by chairman Walter Sabatini. He is now proving that statement to be true and the current Italian U-21 centre-back is a brilliant prospect that is fully deserving of his place in the Stats XI.
