Is This Arsenal's Greatest XI?

DR. Lee Dixon

Having to make the choice between Lee Dixon and Lauren for who should be in the right back slot was pretty difficult. On one hand you've got Lauren, a man who Arsene Wenger himself referred to as one of his best, yet most underrated signings who was also a key part of the incredible Invincibles team.

Despite the positives that come with the Cameroonian, he was never the most defensively sound player on the pitch. So while he contributed to the attacking flair associated with that specific squad, if you want a right back who can attack and defend then Lee Dixon is the obvious choice.

Like many of the players who came from the George Graham era, Dixon's defensive work was outstanding, but when Wenger came in and gave the full backs license to attack the flanks fans saw a different side of the Manchester-born right back. Despite being a stereotypical hard-nosed English defender who didn't mind crunching a player if he had too, he still managed to play the game with a touch of class.
