There was nothing flashy about Gary Neville and the way he played football. There were no frills or skills, just hard work, discipline, toughness and defensive awareness. Unlike the defenders of today, Neville rarely made it past the halfway line but when it came to making sure his team were safe and secure when opponents attempted to threaten the United defence, there probably wasn't anyone quite as reliable as him.
