Despite the shenanigans he's gotten up to on and off the pitch, it's difficult to deny Chelsea captain John Terry has earned himself a spot on this list. Three things stick out about Terry that have made him such a formidable foe for such a long time in the Premier League - and it's not the fear of him sleeping with your wife. Firstly, it's very rare that he makes a mistake and for a defender that's a crucial, crucial quality to have. Rarely is his mind not 100% focused on the task at hand and it's even more rare that he'll let a player get by him. He is the one of the biggest keys to Chelsea's dominance over the last decade and he didn't even cost them a penny. Secondly, he is an incredible threat at set-pieces and is second only to David Unsworth (seriously) in the amount of goals he's scored as a defender. Lastly, he's a natural-born leader and has a winning mentality that has been absorbed by nearly every player who has played alongside him. Most fans may despise him but his record as a player simply cannot be denied.
