4. Fabio Borini
Brendan Rodgers'
first Liverpool signing, Fabio Borini saw his debut season at Anfield wrecked by a series of injuries. In October last year, a broken foot ruled the former Roma star out for three months and then in February a dislocated shoulder effectively ended his season. The 22-year-old did however return toward the end of the campaign as a 72nd minute substitute during the 6-0 thrashing of Newcastle, a game of which he got the score sheet of, netting after being on the pitch for a minute. That would be Borini's only league goal of the 2012/13 season after managing to make just 13 appearances, though happily he has enjoyed a much better summer. The youngster was included in Italy's U-21 squad for European Championships and, on 15 June, scored the winning goal in semi-finals of the competition against Holland. Following the competition's completion he was announced in UEFA's official team of the tournament, and if he can stay clear of injury next season, there's no reason why he can't excel for the Reds as well as for his country.
