Liverpool Fans' 8 Most Disliked Players Of The Modern Era
3. Michael Owen
Some people reading this- rival fans, perhaps- might be horrified to learn just how disliked Michael Owen is by many Liverpool supporters, but it's true. The majority have very little time for him, and there is one big reason for this. Having been a star at Anfield between 1996 and 2004, in which he scored 158 goals in 297 appearances, he upped ship and left for Real Madrid. While some may argue that it would be hard to turn down an offer from a club as enormous as the Spanish giants, Owen seemed to go a little too easily, and it left many questioning just how much he loved Liverpool (as a side note, there was always a feeling that horse racing was his real passion, and that playing for Liverpool didn't mean nearly as much). While some weren't necessarily too angry about his move to Madrid, the Englishman's decision to join United in 2009 was a step too far. Many saw it as hugely disrespectful- much like United fans did with Ince when he joined Liverpool- and from that point on he's been booed whenever he's set foot at Anfield. It's shame that Owen's legacy has been tarnished after such a sensational spell for the Reds, but in comparison with Robbie Fowler, for example, he was never universally loved by Liverpool fans, even in his prime.
