Liverpool Fans' 8 Most Disliked Players Of The Modern Era

2. Fernando Torres

If someone had said five years ago that Fernando Torres would be loathed by the majority of Liverpool supporters, people wouldn't have believed it for a second. Between 2007 and 2009 he was arguably the finest striker on the planet, and the way he bullied some of the world's best defenders- Nemanja Vidic used to be powerless against him- was truly special. He scored 72 goals in his first three seasons at Anfield. Throughout parts of the 2009/10 season, however, there was a change in Torres' body language. He no longer looked like a player enjoying his football, and his work-rate and general influence on the team started to diminish. His form was a big reason for the Reds' poor campaign- the 22 goals he scored that season masked some very poor displays- and injuries had seen him lose a yard of pace. It was under Hodgson in 2010/11 that his attitude got even worse, and it was clear that he was hankering for a move elsewhere. By this point the fans had started to lose faith in him, and his sulky attitude was not appreciated. When he decided to join Chelsea, one of Liverpool's biggest rivals in the five years or so previously, it was the final straw for many. All the accolades he had received since arriving in 2007 were forgotten about, and he remains a figure of hate to this day.
