9. Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Source: BBC There is usually some foundation to most transfer rumours, unfortunately though in the summer of 2001, there was no source of this one. On the last day of the window BBC started receiving numerous text messages from people sighting Ibrahimovic at Liverpool airport and at the training ground. Liverpool fans understandably got excited, believing the fantastic mad Swede was on his way to Anfield. Unfortunately, they had been had. Arch rivals Everton had got together and decided that they might play a little joke on their rivals. They began texting the Ibrahimovic story in force and the BBC took hold of it and began putting it on their transfer rumour page. Liverpool forums then saw it and excitement started to build. This was all much to the amusement of the Everton fans responsible and by the time the window slammed shut there was no sign of Ibrahimovic, mainly because it was completely made up.
