Liverpool Transfers: 10 Ridiculous Rumours That Never Came Off

8. Steven Gerrard

Source: Daily Mail Back in 2004, one of the biggest transfer sagas was one involving Steven Gerrard making a move to Chelsea. The deal to take the Liverpool legend to Stamford Bridge fell through over death threats. Now looking back, it seems unlikely the deal was ever going to go through. Gerrard is a Liverpool man through and through, a leader. A move away from Liverpool never seemed to be on the cards till Chelsea€™s money came knocking. What eventually happened though was Liverpool fans sent Gerrard death threats over his departure and he pulled out. Now to me, I wouldn€™t want to play for a group of fans that had sent me death threats. It seems Gerrard was looking for any excuse to pull out of the move and he found one. Almost ten years on from Gerrard€™s €œalmost€ departure it seems mad that he almost left and he I think Liverpool fans will be very glad he didn€™t, with their captain their most important player of the last ten years.
