The forward, currently at the World Cup with Colombia, struck 20 times in 30 appearances for Porto in 2013-14 and hit 29 goals in 51 overall appearances for the Portuguese side. The Red's interest in Martinez
dates back to 2012, during the player's days at Mexican side Chiapas, and the Merseyside club have reignited their interest this summer and are preparing to do battle with Premier League rivals Arsenal for the player's services, though the striker's market value
has skyrocketed since to about £35 million. Martinez has stalled over a new contract at Porto over reports his club want to set his release clause to a staggering £70 million and while he certainly isn't worth the lion's share of Brendan Rodgers's kitty from the sale of Luis Suarez, he's a good punt at a more affordable £35 million.
