1. Benidikt Howedes - Schalke
For regular viewers of German football this will not at all be a surprise choice as Howedes has fast made himself one of the best all round defenders in the Bundesliga over the past couple of years. At just 24 years old he has youth on his side as well as already amassing a considerable amount of experience, having played 132 games for his club and breaking into the German national side. He can play at centre-half or left-back and is very much the epitome of a modern defender. He is comfortable with the ball at his feet and can play out from the back competently as well as being a goal scoring threat at the other end. The German International also has excellent awareness and the ability to time a tackle to perfection; he would be a perfect fit into Liverpool's new 'tiki-taka' system with his ball skills and at 6ft2 he also provides physicality that would be lost if Skrtel leaves the club.
