Liverpool Transfers: 4 Players Rodgers Desperately Needs To Replace Today

1. Stewart Downing

Downing It can't be overstated. Stewart Downing has been a categorical flop since arriving at Liverpool from Aston Villa in 2011. Much was expected of him too. In his final season at Villa Park he scored 8 goals and provided 9 assists, which prompted Liverpool to part with £20 million for him. But he has never once looked like living up to that price tag. In two seasons he hasn't even amassed the same tally of goals as he did in his final season for Villa, scoring a mediocre 5 overall, and he has provided one fewer assist as well in that period of time. Now that Brendan Rodgers has signed Philippe Coutinho from Inter Milan, who can play either through the middle, up front or on the wing, Downing's days could (and should) be numbered.
