Liverpool Transfers: 5 Blockbuster Signings Brendan Rodgers Could Make In January

4. Andre Ayew

Ghana forward Ayew has featured regularly against the Premier League's elite in recent Champions League campaigns. Olympique Marseille could decide to cash in on him come January. The Daily Mirror identified Ayew as a £10 million target for both Liverpool and Newcastle United. Playing alongside his brother Jordan at the Stade Velodrome, he has scored three goals and made as many assists from a left wing berth so far this term. Marseille would not want to lose Ayew for nothing in the summer of 2015 even though he came through their academy. At just 23 years of age he already has 45 caps for his country. Rodgers can look at his scoring record over the last three seasons and will find Ayew has been a consistent threat in both Ligue 1 and Europe. He's reached double figures in all of those campaigns with a best return of 16 goals in 39 games. Summer signing Mamadou Sakho is the same age as Ayew, but he would find far more common tongues on Tyneside than at the Reds. Signing extra width would mean a change of shape from the current 3-5-2 system employed by Rodgers, but this left footed option would be more bargain than blockbuster at the above price.
