Liverpool Transfers: Four Strikers Liverpool Could Sign

Liverpool desperately need a goal-scorer - read our four realistic suggestions here.

Liverpool have spent over £150 million since John Henry arrived at Anfield. Luis Suarez had been linked with the Reds so his transfer from Ajax was anticipated. What nobody expected was the £50 million sale of Fernando Torres and the purchase of Andy Carroll. At the time Carroll had been in sparkling form. Newcastle were in the midst of their first season back in the Premier League and during their reshuffle phase the 23-year-old became a hero at St James Park. The Newcastle native scored 11 goals before Deadline Day. Watching Sky Sports News as Carroll travelled by helicopter to sign at Anfield was exciting; the transfer seemed to come from nowhere. Despite the hype surrounding the move there was one question on everybody€™s lips: £35 million? The most expensive British player of-all-time; the pressure was always going to weigh heavily on a player who€™d only been in the Premier League for six months. It also didn€™t help that he was injured at the time. The last player who€™d been injured on arrival €“ Alberto Aquilani €“ never had time to settle in the team. Over the next one and half seasons €“ or 42 league games €“ Carroll only scraped a meagre six goals, including a memorable double against Manchester City in a 3-0 win. It hardly came as a surprise that he was loaned to West Ham for the season. Perhaps what was a little more astonishing was how Liverpool failed to arrange a replacement, leaving only Suarez and the new-boy Fabio Borini to notch the much-needed goals. Suarez has managed a slightly better 17 goals in 48 games, although that return is poor considering he has often been deployed as the lone striker. While the Uruguayan has thrilled the Kop with his creative flair and crafty dribbling he often fails to finish off his chances. Borini was a Brendan Rodgers signing €“ someone he€™d worked with at Chelsea and Swansea €“ but during his time in Britain he€™d never earned a starting place. A return of 9 goals in 24 matches was semi-impressive for Roma on his debut season and it proved enough for a return to England. Liverpool currently sit in 17th with three goals; one less than newly promoted Reading. Suarez did score against Sunderland but the two goals against Manchester City both came from set-plays. The truth is that Liverpool desperately require a goal-scoring striker. Click within to reveal my four realistic options.
