Man City - 5 Things Pellegrini Needs To Change For The Hull Game

3. David Silva

David Silva is most effective in the central playmaker role. However, against Cardiff, he was deployed on the left to provide balance with Jesus Navas on the right. Whether it was the positioning, or Cardiff's resolute defending, or just simply the fact that he was having an off day, the Spaniard was not as effective as normal. Granted, he did provide the cross for Alvaro Negredo's late consolation, but aside from that and one other decent piece of link-up play with Sergio Aguero in the first half, his passes were wayward and he wasn't his usual instrumental self. Against Hull, assuming that both Silva and Navas will start, returning the former to a more central role behind the strikers would maximise his impact. To incorporate this, City could adopt more of a 4-3-3, with Navas assuming the role of right-sided forward. Pellegrini has previously dismissed formations as mere 'telephone numbers', however, he needs to ensure that Silva can return to the position where he's most lethal and able to dictate play.
