Man City - 5 Things Pellegrini Needs To Change For The Hull Game

2. Effectiveness In The Final Third

When facing Newcastle, City were given space and time to work their way through the opposition's defence, whereas against Cardiff they came up against a brick wall. Despite the Blues enjoying a large proportion of the possession, they seemed absolutely lost in the final third €“ balls were either floated harmlessly over the top, or the attempts to pass through the defence proved to be futile; either way, possession was lost and the attacks broke down. It took 34 minutes before City's first real opportunity on goal and although that was just a tame effort from David Silva from the edge of the box, at least it was a shot. It was evident that City needed to try their luck from distance, and when Dzeko lashed an effort in from 20 yards, it only seemed to further prove this point. Against Hull, there's a very good possibility that the visitors will also defend in numbers, so Pellegrini needs to ensure that his team are able to make the most out of any openings they may have, even if that means having a few digs from 25 yards. As the old adage goes €“ if you don't shoot, you don't score.
